5. Your government has announced that it wishes to build a military base near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the military base?

In Korea, every man has to finish the military service for 2 years. In my case, I have already finished the military service. Even though I used to stand in the government’s position, I oppose the government builds a military base near my community. There are three disadvantages of both the military force and civilians who live in my community.
The price of the land where many people are living is usually much more expensive than the other’s price. It is necessary huge space to build a military base because the military base has to have a lot of things such as vehicles, a large drill ground, houses where solders are staying, and command centers. When the government wants to build these things near to a community, they cannot avoid spending too much money. They will have a lot of problems when they are doing what they want.
Because of the first reason, the military base cannot be huge. It causes another disadvantage. The military force cannot practice their new skills as much as needed. To make the force strong, practicing is a must-do. Without this, the force wouldn’t be able to be strong. It is a very fatal risk. They cannot do their job if the force is weak. If they are too weak to defense the country, there is no reason why they have to exist.
The third reason is related to the right everybody can do anything what they want using their own land. If there is a military base, they will be interrupted when they want to develop their own real state. In some cases, the government prohibits the development because that area is an operating area. Nobody wants to be restricted their own right.
Even though the military force exists for saving civilians and defending the country, they don’t have the right to restrict somebody’s right unless a war starts there. If the government executes the plan of building the military base in a community without considering the three reasons I have mentioned, the force will be getting weaker and weaker because they cannot be trained enough. Therefore, the government has to place the force in the other site where people rarely live.
